Psalms of Comfort 17: You Have Value… Just as You Are
Psalm 119 (The Message Translation)
73 With your very own hands you formed me; now breathe your wisdom over me.
Psalm 139
13 For you created my inmost being;
you knit me together in my mother’s womb.14 I praise you because I am fearfully and wonderfully made;
your works are wonderful, I know that full well.
Listen closely; Jesus’ love does not depend upon what we do for Him. Not at all. In the eye of the King, you have value simply because you are. You don’t have to look nice or perform well. Your value is inborn. You are valuable…not because of what you do or what you have done, but simply because you are. Remember that. God takes you however he finds you.
No need to clean up or climb up. Just look up.
How is your sense of worth? Sometimes our sense of worth is wrapped up in what we do and who we are to other people. Where we are unable to do the things that give us that sense of worth, when we are unable to contribute to the lives of family and friends in the way we once did, we can feel almost worthless. The good news of todays scripture readings is that, it is who you are, not what you do or how you look that is important to God.
There is a level playing field in life that has been exposed by our common susceptability to this virus. Nature doesn’t care how rich and famous you are or how important you are or how powerful you are. God has made us all with his hands. He hasn’t made us to be anybody else. He doesn’t make mistakes, He has made us this way for a purpose. So be thankful and happy that God has made you the way you are.
Another thing is that he made you the way you are for a purpose, and I don’t think we can fulfil that purpose until we are content and happy in who we are.
Art work is collected to hang on walls and be admired by people. The greater the artist or sculptor or designer the more valuable the art work. People can pay many millions for those pieces. I think people are more interested in seeing a Van Gough or a Michalangelo, or even a Banksy than something an art student could produce, no matter how talented they are. You have been created by the greatest artist there ever was and your value is priceless.
Whats more the people around you have been created by the same God and they have the same value you do.
So live today and appreciate your value and the value of those around you.
