Wisdom for the Day: Proverbs 3:21
When we let things out of our sight sometimes it is difficult to find them when you need them. Glasses are my nemesis, they are on and off my head like a yoyo, I lay them down and then have to search frantically for them when I need them.
Proverbs 3
21 My son, do not let wisdom and understanding out of your sight,
preserve sound judgment and discretion;
22 they will be life for you,
an ornament to grace your neck.
23 Then you will go on your way in safety,
and your foot will not stumble.
24 When you lie down, you will not be afraid;
when you lie down, your sleep will be sweet.
25 Have no fear of sudden disaster
or of the ruin that overtakes the wicked,
26 for the LORD will be at your side
and will keep your foot from being snared.
The parents with the young child are focused on not letting their child out of their sight, especially when they are outside, when there are potential threats around. The sad fact is sometimes it is not safe to do that. We are all well aware of what can happen when we take our eye off what is precious to us. I’m sure we have all done it, out and about, we get distracted, the child wanders off in a shop, they were following you and they are no longer there, panic, frantic searching and calling out to the child, has anyone seen a small child on their own, they were there one minute, the next they are gone.
Wisdom we are told is as valuable as that. Don’t let it out of your sight because that is the thing that will preserve you and keep you safe. That is the thing that will maintain your sound judgement and your ability to make the right choices.
Wisdom of course is the Lord’s word and the Lord’s council, it is the way of the Lord, his commands and his laws. Don’t lose sight of them because when we do what is going to happen.
We will not be kept safe, we will fall flat on our faces, we will lay awake at night afraid, our sleep will be disturbed, we will fear our own shadow, living in a state of impending doom. The Lord will not be at our side if we take our eyes of wisdom, there will be no one to stop us slipping into destruction.
Don’t take your eyes off the Lord and his word because when you do, all of a sudden you find yourself up the creek without a paddle. At the mercy of the flow of the world, you will be taken to places you don’t want to go.
So the word for the day is do not let wisdom out of your sight. It is just not worth it.
