Psalms of Comfort 8: Psalm 34 v1–8
The Lord had saved the psalmist out of a dire situation and in this psalm we encounter the goodness of God to those that recognise their need of Him, who seek Him, who revere and praise Him.
I have just started reading a book by Mark Jones titled ‘Knowing Jesus’ and when we just sit back and look for Jesus in his word it is a search well worth your time. When we truly see Jesus we want to run to Him. The question I ask is, why would you not? It is like all the good things in life are offered to you in one glorious present that makes all other things pale into insignificance. He truly is the greatest gift that we will ever receive.
Stepping through this psalm we encounter the attributes of God and the attributes of Jesus,
It begins with an offering of praise from the needy, the afflicted, the poor and a call for them to hear and rejoice.
If we want to hear from God then we are to praise Him, whatever our circumstances. The psalmist sought the Lord and the Lord answered him and delivered him from his fears.
Sometimes it is in the seeking of the Lord that our fears are relieved. When we realize just how great God is and that He is on our side and that He knows our fears and can deliver us from them. It is in that knowledge that these fears just fade. Perhaps the issues and problems don’t go away and there is work to be done but the fear of them, the fear we have of being able to handle what’s before us is over come by knowing just who is on our side and just who will be with us through it all.
So let the Lord shine on you and your face will radiate from being in his presence. When we look to Him we are radiant and what ever shame, disappointment, disillusionment you ever felt is blown away when we focus on Him. It is like coming to the fire and never being cold again as long as we stay there. An eternal fire that warms our inner being.
The poor man cried out and the Lord answered him and saved him from all his troubles. How does the Lord help us when we cry out from the place of humility and nothingness – He saves us, He sent Jesus to us to reveal to us His wonderful love.
Taste and see that the Lord is good and we are incredibly blessed when we take refuge in Him. He is our safe place. When we experience Him in that way we lack nothing. We have everything we will ever need.
So run to Jesus. He holds his arms out to you as one who loves you deeply, Jesus wants you to go to Him. He wants to become the most important person in your life, the greatest love you’ll ever know. He wants you to love Him so much that there’s no room in your heart and in your life for sin.
Invite Him to take up residence in your heart.
